Hi Folks,
Really excellent meeting last night. My particular thanks to the Vicious
Badger parents who helped control the crowd in various ways. That was great
guys; we got stuff done, it was reasonably orderly, and there was a game
that the guys really liked. We even closed on time (more or less). More
like that would be fantastic.
A pile of stuff, possibly related to deer hunting (or not) appeared in
the last week in the game room. We really can't have stuff like that in
that room (it's dangerous to kids running around) so we've moved it to the
back of the storeroom (painting booth). If you know anything about this
stuff, please advise on what it is and what we should do with it. If we
hear nothing, we will eventually dispose of it all.
Thanks to Molly Alexander and her team for an outstanding outdoor leaders
training and JLT last weekend. Those of us who went really enjoyed it.
Good instruction and good fellowship all around.
Much thanks and praise to Trevor and Terry Powell for cutting the grass
at the Scout Hut. Don't know what we would have done without you all.
We will be working on the Scout Hut the week of May 31 to June 4. My
idea is that we have some sort of "camp scout-hut" where we spend the
mornings working and go to a movie or go swimming or something like that in
the afternoons. We really need adults to come and help but kids are
probably welcome too. Please note that we always need two deep leadership
if we have kids around so kids can't be dropped off unless we're sure there
is sufficient adult supervision (or their parents stay).
This week the Vicious Badgers tied with the Highly Flammable Piffs with
the Fromage and Biohazards running only one point behind. We'll consider
what the appropriate rewards are.
As always, the Troop 1954 events calendar,
this and all back newsletters, and all sorts of other useful information is
available on our website at

Announcements |
| |
| 1) We’ll be leaving from the Scout Shack at 5:30
this Friday for the Wolf Mountain/Enchanted Rock camp-out.
2) For those of you who were not here last week, we’ve
changed the order of the meeting. We now go from announcements to
patrol activities and have the game last. We’re also trying to institute
use of a whistle. When you hear the whistle, please return immediately
to your places in this room.

| Alumni List |
Here's what I've got so far for Troop 1954 Alums. You can see that
we're no where near completing this job. We've got good records at the
moment only for a couple of years in the early 1990s. We're missing at
least ten years of records. You also get an idea how large a job this
will turn out to be. I'd estimate we're currently missing at least 100
names, perhaps more. I've tried to give some indication what sort of
source I had for this information. All adult information is from old
charters. Youth information is either from charters or files. If the
scout is marked "left," that means I found the name crossed off on a
charter (but have no date for when they joined). If you know any of
these people, please supply me with corrected spellings or any
additional information. More info as we go along.

| Upcoming Events |
| Camping at Wolf
Mountain/Enchanted Rock May 21-23
Silver Pines Junior Leadership Training Program, May 30 - June 5.
Scout Hut Work
Camp.
We'll be there
daily from May 31 to June 4 (I think...more about this as we get closer
to the dates...I know, we're pretty close already.
Camping at Guadalupe River State Park, June 11-13.
Troop 1954 Summer Camp, July 3 - July 11
We will be doing summer camp at Camp Dale Resler in the mountains of
New Mexico. This trip will also include visits to White Sands National
Monument and Carlsbad Caverns National Park. It should be a great
chance to get away from the summer heat of San Marcos and into the cool
mountains of New Mexico. It is also a fantastic chance for the scouts
to make progress on advancement, have a great time, and bond more
tightly as a group. If you can possibly send your scout to summer camp,
please do so. The estimated cost for this program (including travel,
all visits, and spending money), about $330 for youth and $220 for
adults.
Back to School Water Event, Friday August 13th
We're headed to Schlitterbahn for one last day of summer fun before
the school year begins (kids boo parents cheer!). We'd really like to
encourage the kids to bring friends along on this one. As always, we
can use new members, especially among the older kids. |
