Troop 1954 Policies

The operation and functioning of Troop 1954 is guided by both our own rules and the rules of the BSA.  Information found in both of these sources falls into three general categories: traditions, guidelines, and policies.

Traditions: Things we do that are purely discretionary.  We can do them or not as we please.

Guidelines: Rules that allow quite a bit of variation but whose spirit we try to obey.

Policies: Rules we are supposed to obey as written to the best of our ability.

The chief source for actual BSA policies is the Guide To Safe Scouting.  You can find a link to that below.  The G2SS sets what activities we can and cannot do and directs us on specific requirements for doing many activities.  But note, the G2SS contains both policies and guidelines, and often explicitly says which is which.

Other information on running a BSA Troop is found throughout BSA published literature, but guidelines are far more common than policy.

BSA policies and guidelines provide enormous flexibility in troop management and operation.  It is the job of the Troop Committee to decide policies and guidelines specific to Troop 1954.

The ONLY places were policies and guidelines relating to anything about Troop 1954 can be found are:
1) in current BSA publications available at the Scout Shop in Austin.
2) on the web pages linked from this web page.

If it isn't in one of these two places, it may be a tradition, but it is neither a guideline or a policy.

Troop 1954 tries very hard to adhere faithfully to both its own policies and those of the BSA.  If, at any time, you feel we are not living up to this obligation, we sincerely wish you to inform us by directing us to the source document that contains the policy.
